In a study room - SHIBA RYOTARO MEMORIAL MUSEUM, Higashi-osaka　[Outing] [Edit]

“Now, a very small nation is reaching for a time of flowering”... Yes, it was such as the opening sentence. I learned that we can see an autographic draft of Japanese author, “Shiba Ryotaro”, so that I went to see it to the exhibition, held in his memorial museum in Higashi Osaka, - Eastern part of Osaka -, titled as “A scene of study and its time background in which a novel, 'Sakano Ueno Kumo, - Upslope Clouds -', was written".

Shiba Ryotaro participated in World War II as a mobilized student. His experience of defeat in the war let him to show a deep concern about a nation of Japan and peoples in Japan, and to write over fifty historical books and reading matters. His easy-to-read style and contents, written by the rigorous historical investigation, made me daffy about the through-reading of series for a period of time. His facile style makes reader’s fascination rapidly deeper.

It is self-praise. My father was one of devotee of Shiba, so that my name is from a character in this novel. Therefore, I had been wanted to visit the museum. This time, I heard I could see the autographic draft. So I went to see it on this occasion. Today’s topic is his “Study Room” and the memorial museum.

This is the memorial museum. It was a very fine day.

Walking along the bend pathway beside the fashionable modern construction made me find the entrance.

Visiting the museum makes people know his writing was made with the great amount of matter for inquiry. It is a powerful lot of collected books. It seems as if it were a microcosm of history. I heard about twenty thousand books are collected in this museum. In addition to the books, it seems, adding books in his own house beside the museum, - including his own writing - , totally becomes over sixty thousand books.

“Study Room” was preserved in the same condition of his last writing. Though it has passed a time, - it is unlike the other authors - , it made me feel as if he continued writing somethings. Not to mention, the pleasant to learn a history give us wisdom to think or anticipate future possibilities. The person who had read his writing might know it. Today’s impression was as if I tried to meet a main character in his novel. It was very exciting experiences. If “YOU” loved a book of history, or if you were interested in “NATION OR PEOPLE IN JAPAN”, it is a place where makes you trigger your interest in his ageless stories. ＜とある書斎 - 司馬遼太郎記念館・東大阪市＞

「まことに小さな国が、開化期をむかえようとしている。」…そういえばこんな書き出しでした。司馬遼太郎さんの直筆の原稿が見られるというので、東大阪にある、記念館で開催されている、「『坂の上の雲』が書かれた書斎風景とその時代展」に行ってきました。

司馬さんは学徒動員で第二次世界大戦に参戦し、敗戦の経験から、「日本」という国と「日本人」について深い関心をもち、50冊以上の歴史関連の書籍を執筆された方です。読みやすくかつ綿密な考証の上に書かれた司馬氏の小説は、私も一時期夢中になって読みました。平易な文体で読む者を本の奥深くへどんどん魅了します。

手前みそですが、私の父が司馬さんのファンで、この小説の登場人物の一字をもらって私の名前を付けたとか。かねてより一度記念館に行ってみたいとおもっていましたが直筆ということで行ってきました。今日は司馬さんの「書斎」と記念館のお話です。

おしゃれな現代風の構造物の通路を曲がりきると入り口があります。

司馬さんの著書がどれだけの調べ物の量から成り立っているか、この記念館を訪れるとわかります。おびただしい蔵書数です。まるで歴史の小宇宙といった感じでしょうか。この記念館で約2万冊、側の自宅には自著本もあわせて約6万冊もあるそうです。

「書斎」は絶筆当時のままに保存されています。亡くなられて時間がたっていますが、ここは他の作家の屋敷の跡と違って、今も執筆を続けられているような感じを受けます。過去を知ることは未来を考える知恵を与えてくれるということ。読まれた方はご存じでしょう。氏が描いた歴史の小説の「主人公」に会いにゆくような気分。そんなわくわくするような印象を今日は持ちました。歴史が好きな「あなた」。「日本人」もしくは「日本という国」に関心を持っている方々。司馬遼太郎さんの時間を超越した物語の世界へのきっかけを与えくれそうな、そんな場所です。興味のある方、是非にお勧めです。（いつもご覧いただき誠にありがとうございます。）
